Framework for hard political conversations #2.

I have been racking my brain trying to put together a framework for individuals to talk to each other when they are not on the same page politically. And then I went and looked at the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics and bingo there it was plain as day.

Today I am only going to talk about the fourth, fifth, and sixth ethical principles.

Justice – treating individuals equitably and fostering fairness and equality. Foster fairness and equality.

Fidelity – honoring commitments and keeping promises, including fulfilling one’s responsibilities to ensuring trust in professional relationships.

Veracity – dealing truthfully with individuals with whom the counselor (or any other person) comes into professional contact.

I will make it easy; treat people equitably which means fairly and equally. Keep in mind we don’t all start on an even playing field. Keep promises and foster trust in relationships. Keep your word and be honest. Sound easy, but in real life its not.
